Call out for new City Band home

Horsham Rural City Council is supporting a local band’s call out for a new place to call home.

Horsham Rural City Band, currently based near Horsham City Oval, is on the lookout for a long-term lease in a private building where it can be a sole tenant.

HRCC has offered to help the 150-year-old band relocate to Jubilee Hall in Roberts Avenue.

Under the plan, the Rural City Band would share the soon-to-upgraded hall with Horsham City Pipe Band.

However band members have opted to keep looking elsewhere in Horsham.

“Council is working closely with Horsham Rural City Band and Horsham City Pipe Band to find suitable new homes that will allow both groups to prosper in the future,” Director Communities and Place Kevin O’Brien said.

“Discussions are well-advanced, with Jubilee Hall identified as the most suitable Council-owned building for both bands.

“Council has recently secured grant funding to renovate a large area at the rear of the hall that could accommodate both band groups as a shared space. Council is also committed to covering the costs of relocation.

“We are aware of the Rural City Band’s preference to have a single use building and Council supports its current call-out to local groups/businesses for an alternative to Jubilee Hall.

“Ultimately, we want to achieve the best possible result for all user groups,” he said.

The 50-member band is relocating from the Council-owned facility next to Horsham City Oval’s netball courts, as there are plans to add a second court in its place.

In November 2021, Council approved the new Concept Plan for the redevelopment of the City Oval Sawyer Park precinct, which was developed by a Community Reference Group including representatives of all current users of the site.
