Orange City Council staff and local teens from the Orange Youth Hub are getting ready to take part in the annual Vinnies Community Sleep Out.
The St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) are hosting a community sleepout on Friday, 25 August 2023, from 6 pm to 8.30 am, Saturday, 26 August, in the Main Hall of the Orange Uniting Church, 217 Anson Street.
Sleeping rough for a night aims to raise awareness and much-needed funds, which will assist Vinnies in providing support to those in our community who need it the most. All funds raised will go directly to the Orange Vinnies Van Service.
The fund-raising goal is $10,000.

Orange City Council Services Policy Committee Chair, Cr Mel McDonell, said that she encourages everyone to think about taking part in the event as it’s a very important event for the community.
“There are more than 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness. Homelessness shows itself in many ways, affecting individuals and families from all walks of life. Whether it’s young people couch-surfing for safety or individuals grappling with mental health concerns, this event sheds light on the diverse nature of this crisis,” Cr McDonell said.
“I encourage everyone to register. Ask your friends, colleagues, or family members to come along.”
“The Sleepout not only fosters self-awareness but also creates a sense of empathy toward those facing homelessness daily. It is an opportunity to connect with the reality that so many endure.”

Everyone is invited to come along and bring whatever they are comfortable with to spend the night out, such as a sleeping bag, pillow, a water bottle, warm clothing, and extra blankets if you feel the cold.
