Warracknabeal Agricultural Museum has completed its emergency fire system upgrade today, putting safety first in a town susceptible to bushfires.
Federal Member for Mallee Anne Webster, who attended a plaque unveiling ceremony today, said the upgrade involved the installation of new water tanks, hose reels, water main connections and guidelines on how to navigate the premises safely in such an event.
“These upgrades will ensure current fire safety standards are met, providing a safe environment for tourists and residents of Warracknabeal,” Dr Webster said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the project consisted of using local resources, businesses and suppliers – stimulating the Yarriambiack Shire economy.
“This investment is about building a better and safer future for Warracknabeal, where knowledge and application of fire safety is absolutely crucial for protecting residents and the environment,” Mr McCormack said.
Yarriambiack Council Mayor Graeme Massey said the conclusion of the project would create a positive ripple effect in the community for years to come.
“No one expects to be caught in a fire, but out here it can happen to anyone at any time. I applaud the Australian Government and my fellow council members for working together to get the job done,” Cr Massey said.
This project is one of the 18 projects funded by the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government under the Drought Communities Programme – a $34.5 million investment over four years to support infrastructure initiatives across drought stricken communities.
