That’s a wrap! Over the past 12 months, Wyndham City has delivered upgraded roads, new community buildings, improved sporting reserves and pavilions and enhanced open spaces to meet the needs of our growing community.
Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Susan McIntyre, said these works were funded through Wyndham City’s capital works program, with $124.4 million invested in City-shaping projects over 2021/22, and $167.2 million allocated for 2022/23.
“As we say goodbye to 2022, it’s a great opportunity to look back at what we’ve achieved,” Cr McIntyre said.
“It’s been a challenging 12 months with labour and supply shortages across the construction sector – but that hasn’t stopped us from delivering a range of essential and City-shaping projects that will contribute to the overall liveability of Wyndham.”
“This year we’ve opened two new community centres – the $7.5 million Koomail Tardy Community Centre in Truganina and the $5.7 million Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre in Tarneit.”
“Both these centres offer our growing population a range of community, health and education services and programs, including kindergarten and maternal child health.”
“Improving our local roads is one of Council’s key priorities, and in 2022 we completed a $5 million rehabilitation of Sneydes Road between Hacketts Road and Lennon Boulevard in Point Cook, and most recently a $5 million rehabilitation of Sayers Road between Tarneit Road and Reflections Boulevard in Tarneit.”
“We’ve also made great progress on our $8.9 million Road Reconstructions Program and our $3.05 million Road Surface Renewal Program, with construction underway on both.”
“These programs maintain and upgrade neighbourhood roads, making them smoother, safer and more enjoyable for everyday use.”
“We know how important it is to have great parks close to home – that’s why we’ve completed a $1 million upgrade of Fraser Street Park in Hoppers Crossing, a $1.2 million upgrade at Tarneit’s Moondara Street Park, and opened the new Caraleena Drive Park in Tarneit.”
“Meanwhile, we’re kicking goals on our sporting pavilion upgrades program, completing a $1.066 million retrofit of the Howqua Way Reserve pavilion in Manor Lakes and a $960,000 upgrade of the Saltwater Soccer Pavilion in Point Cook.”
“In September, we opened the Williams Landing Library Lounge, which services both the Williams Landing and Truganina communities with a small collection of library items, programs, activities and free WiFi.”
“And there’s so much more to come in 2023, with works currently underway to deliver two new Point Cook sport and recreation facilities at Webster Street Reserve and Brookdale Road Reserve.”
“We’ll also be opening the doors to the new Manor Lakes North Integrated Family Centre (interim name) in 2023, which will provide the local community with access to a wide range of children’s and family services.”
“Another big-ticket item will be the completion of a Regional Football Facility that will serve as the main training base for Western United Football Club’s A-League teams, National Premier League matches and academy teams, and will also be available for community use.”
“Many of these projects wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the State Government, which invested more than $14.7 million in these projects, including $5 million towards the Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre, $4.6 million for the Koomail Tardy Community Centre and $4 million for the Manor Lakes North Integrated Family Centre.”
