Campbelltown residents will soon have greater access to flexible transport options, after Council adopted a new Car Share Policy to support the introduction of car share services across the city.
The policy establishes a framework for approved car share operators to provide vehicles in dedicated parking spaces on Council-managed land.
Car share services allow members to book vehicles for short periods and return them to designated parking spaces when their trip is complete.
Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound said the policy would support greater transport choice for residents.
“As our city continues to grow, it’s important that we provide a range of transport options that meet the changing needs of our community,” Cr Lound said.
“There are 161 businesses and 775 residents already members of car share services in Campbelltown. It can provide a convenient option for people who don’t need a car every day, while helping to make more efficient use of parking and transport infrastructure,” he said.
“The policy provides a clear process for assessing applications and engaging with the community when new car share locations are proposed.”
The policy outlines how car share operators can apply to operate within the Campbelltown local government area and establishes criteria for assessing suitable locations for dedicated car share parking spaces.
Proposed locations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into account factors such as local demand, parking availability, accessibility, road safety and proximity to residents, businesses and public transport.
