Townsville City Council is completing its annual maintenance on Castle Hill and Castle Hill Road this week.
Road closures will be in place on the road beginning on Tuesday from 6:30am to 4pm to allow the works to be completed by Council staff.
Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Mark Molachino said regular maintenance of Castle Hill keeps the area in a good condition for the thousands of users.
“Castle Hill is one of the most popular locations in Townsville and it’s important that we maintain it to keep it in good condition,” Cr Molachino said.
“The works will include the clearing and repairing of stormwater drainage, restoration of line marking, signage and markers, asphalt repair, removal of rocks and tidying of the grass and trees.
“All of this goes towards making sure the area remains useable for the thousands of people that walk the hill or drive up to the lookout every week.”
Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the works will keep Castle Hill in pristine condition.
“Castle Hill is an iconic Townsville location used by the entire community so it’s important we keep it in great condition,” Cr Greaney said.
“The maintenance is expected to take 4 days to complete and during this time traffic controllers will help provide access to all local residents.
“The Goat Track, Cudtheringa Track and Maiden Hair Track will all remain open for those wanting to walk the hill and I’d like to thank all residents for their patience while we complete these annual works.”
The road will be closed from 320 Stanley Street at the intersection of Gregory Street and Stanley Street to the summit of Castle Hill.
Closures will be in place every day between 6.30am to 4pm Tuesday, 22 October through to Friday, 25 October 2019 inclusive.
