Casuarina’s New Aquatic Centre Set To Make Splash

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Construction of Casuarina’s new Aquatic and Leisure Centre is going making its way through the final laps with the project now reaching completion.

Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King, Member for Solomon Luke Gosling and City of Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis visited the site today to see how the centre is taking shape.

Made possible with a $7.5 million election commitment from the Australian Government, the new centre will include an 8-lane, 50-metre pool and a resort-style lagoon pool.

It will also feature a learn-to-swim pool, café and BBQ facilities, wet and dry play areas, as well as a swimming club and community room.

Along with unlocking physical health benefits, the facility will deliver further health services by providing new specialist rooms for allied health services, a gymnasium and a basketball 3-on-3 court.

This centre is expected to bring significant employment benefits, including 220 jobs during the construction phase.

Final works currently being completed include lane marking the pools, commissioning and testing of pool equipment, installing the wet play equipment and landscaping irrigation works.

The $26.8 million project is expected to be completed by mid-2024 and is funded under the Australian Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program (PCIP), with a $19.3 million contribution from the City of Darwin.
