Cattle truck rollover – Barrier Police District, NSW

A truck driver has sustained minor injuries after his vehicle rolled over carrying 51 head of cattle in the state’s far west yesterday.

At 7.30pm (Wednesday 12 March 2020), emergency services were called Little Topar – 95km east of Broken Hill – when a semi-trailer rolled on the Barrier Highway.

Police were told the semi-trailer was travelling east on the highway when it veered and rolled onto the driver’s side.

The driver, a 50-year-old man, sustained minor cuts and bruising and was taken to Broken Hill Base Hospital for treatment.

The semi-trailer was carrying 51 head of cattle at the time, with 12 cattle killed, and a further 39 missing in nearby scrubland.

Representatives from Wilcannia Rural Fire Service attended the scene to inspect the vehicle and monitor a small leak, while RMS assisted with traffic duties.

The vehicle will be towed today (Thursday 13 March 2020) and efforts will be made to locate the remaining cattle.

Investigations into the rollover are continuing.
