Caught out in Croydon

A quick-thinking woman has helped police remove a drink driver from the road after he was allegedly caught more than five times over the legal limit in Croydon last night (20 July).

The 46-year-old member of the public spotted a car stopped on the middle of Lacey Street about 7pm and noticed the male driver looked alcohol-affected.

She was able to stop the man from driving any further, taking away his keys and notifying police.

Maroondah Highway Patrol officers and police from the Road Policing Drug and Alcohol Section (RPDAS) attended the scene and took the driver to the Alcohol and Drug Testing Vehicle nearby for an evidentiary breath test.

He returned an alleged blood alcohol content reading of .256 per cent.

The 40-year-old man from Croydon had his licence immediately suspended and his car impounded at a cost of $878.

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink-driving offences.
