Police are reappealing for information as investigations continue into a large-scale bushfire in the state’s northeast in 2019.
On Sunday 27 October 2019, emergency services were called to the Nundle State Forest, about 60km southwest of Tamworth, following reports of a bushfire.
The fire was controlled by Forest Corporation and NSW Rural Fire Service personnel; however, a large amount of pine timber plantation was destroyed with an estimated damage bill of between $2 and $3 million.
Detectives attached to Oxley Police District – with the assistance of the Forensic Evidence and Technical Services Command – commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Following extensive inquiries and information received about the possible ignition point, police have released a CCTV image of a vehicle of interest in the ongoing investigation.
The image depicts a vehicle described as being a maroon Toyota Hilux in the Nundle area.
Detectives would like anyone with information about the vehicle or its occupants to come forward.
In addition, police are seeking to identify anyone who may have lost or have had stolen a 1000L IBC water tank on the Nundle Road between Woolomin and the Nundle and River roads intersection, between Friday 25 and Sunday 27 October 2019.
