Changes to Council’s waste facilities

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Waste Facilities will remain open for essential purposes only. This includes for people who do not receive kerbside waste collection and businesses that require the service to operate.

Council’s CEO, Ali Wastie, explained that these changes align with the new Stage 3 restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to protect staff.

“Victorians are now required to stay at home unless for essential activities,” Ms Wastie said.

“While many may see this an opportunity to clean up around the house and garden, we must all use our kerbside bins to dispose of any additional waste this generates. Going to the transfer station to get rid of additional waste from these clean ups is not essential.”

Restrictions will limit the number of vehicles permitted to access a waste facility at any one time. Delays are expected, so if you must attend a waste facility please remain in your vehicle and obey the attendant’s directions at all times. At this time, the waste facilities are only accepting card payments.

Council’s hard waste collection service will be suspended from Friday, 4 April. Customers with bookings for hard waste collections after this date will be contacted and offered a refund or credit for use when the service is reinstated.

Council’s waste facilities are currently unable to accept e-waste, as the processors have suspended their acceptance of e-waste. It is illegal to dispose of e-waste in landfill, so please store e-waste at your property until these restrictions are lifted.

Green caddy liners are not currently available, as they are not deemed an essential item. There are readily available alternatives, including lining your caddy with newspaper, or collecting your organics waste in a bucket, tub or bowl and emptying it directly into your Organics bin.

All reports of illegal dumping will be investigated and offenders will be prosecuted.

If you have any questions or concerns about disposing of waste, please contact Council’s Waste Services Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211.
