NDS welcomes changes to reporting obligations in respect of the unauthorised
use of restrictive practices, which have just been announced by the NDIS
Commission.
In a statement and factsheet,
the Commission acknowledges provider concerns (previously reported by NDS) that
the reporting of every use of an unauthorised routine chemical or routine
environmental restrictive practice is resulting in multiple reportable incident
notifications of the same information for an NDIS participant.
To reduce administrative re-entry of information, the Commission has developed
a process for Registered Providers to be able to report unauthorised routine
chemical and routine environmental restrictive practices by participant, on a
weekly basis.
Registered Providers must continue to submit all unauthorised uses of a
restrictive practice through the NDIS Commission Portal. Once submitted, the
Commission will review the notification. If the unauthorised routine chemical
or routine environmental restrictive practice is suitable for weekly reporting,
the NDIS Commission will make contact with the relevant provider to give
further instructions on weekly reporting.
NDS welcomes the Commission’s responsiveness to provider concerns on this issue
and encourages providers to keep NDS and the Commission informed about whether
the advised changes are having the desired effect of reducing the
administrative burden associated with reporting.
