Hundreds of residents answered the call and dropped off nearly 28 tonnes of chemical waste at Council’s annual Chemical Cleanout at the Hawkesbury Showground on Sunday 18 August.
The annual cleanout gives residents the opportunity to dispose of unwanted chemicals around their homes or garages. By responsibly disposing these hazardous household chemicals, it prevents fire hazards and protects our local environment and waterways.
The top 5 items dropped off at the Chemical Cleanout were:
- Water-based paint 8901kg
- Oil 3633kg
- Lead acid batteries 3084kg
- Oil-based paint 2354kg
- Hydrocarbons and fuels 2157kg
Hawkesbury residents have long demonstrated they care about the environment. Since 2014, more than 266 tonnes of chemical waste has been dropped off by the Hawkesbury community. We would like to thank all those residents that came along on the day, and we look forward to another successful Chemical Cleanout next year.
In the meantime, many of the items dropped off at the Chemical Cleanout can be dropped off for FREE at the Hawkesbury Community Recycling Centre located at the Hawkesbury Waste Management Facility, 1 The Driftway, South Windsor, 8am to 4pm seven days a week.
