City of Swan reporting back on resilience

The City of Swan is asking residents to weigh in on a Statewide survey of Western Australians to map community resilience, local government performance and community needs.

The MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard is a collaborative study led by Local Government Professionals WA and CATALYSE, and delivered with help from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and 139 local governments.

City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the study is an important opportunity for people to share their views and experiences.

“The more information we can collect about what the community is experiencing during this time, the more focussed we can be in our approach to delivering support,” he said.

Early indicators from 2,300 residents across the State are that COVID-19 has had a high impact on one in five residents and one in three residents continue to have high concerns about COVID-19.

Most residents agree their local government has put good health and safety practices in place to manage COVID-19 risks in local parks, libraries and community facilities.

Communities are showing their resilience, most are feeling hopeful and enthusiastic about the future.

Around eight in ten residents rate their general health as good or better and eight in ten residents rate their social relationships as good or better.

Local Government Professionals CEO, Candy Choo said the early results are encouraging.

“They reinforce the crucial role Local Government has during times of crisis and emergency,” she said.

“Respondents are saying they want Local Government to take an active role in economic recovery and to engage local businesses and community members to create a Recovery Plan.

“But, to find out if these are the main priorities in each local government area, we need to hear from more people.”

The MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard will remain open until July 3, 2020.

It is open to all residents aged 18 years or older and can be completed online at www.research.net/r/MARKYT
