The City has bolstered its cleaning program in public spaces to reduce the risk of coronavirus contamination.
The disinfecting and street cleaning team is targeting
shopping precincts and high pedestrian areas across the region, with a focus on
footpaths, bike racks, bench seats, bus stops and signs.
To support the sanitisation effort, a secondary
high-pressure spraying unit will be introduced to the CBD cleaning operation
today.
The street cleaning team is also likely benefit from an
increase in numbers, as the City’s new staffing redeployment program finds
opportunities for employees impacted by service closures.
In line with health advice from government authorities,
workers will be following safety measures including social distancing and
wearing protective clothing.
Signs will also be clearly displayed while cleaning activity
is underway.
While the City has boosted the cleaning program, we strongly
encourage the community not to visit public places.

The City has stepped up the cleaning program for the health and safety of our
community.
In the changing and uncertain
times we are facing, it’s also great to be
able to create opportunities and keep staff members in work.
Of course, we all have a
responsibility to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
While we have increased our cleaning program, we still ask
residents to follow the current health advice and refrain from visiting public
facilities.
