- Radiohead commits to donating a portion of ticket sales from 2027 Australian tour to AMCS
- The band previously recomposed their 2011 song ‘Bloom’ for Sir David Attenborough’s ‘Blue Planet II’
Radiohead has announced a portion of ticket sales from their 2027 Australian tour will be donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS). There will be a $2 (AUD) charity donation included in the ticket price going to the Australian Marine Conservation Society and Greenpeace Australia Pacific – this amount may be subject to unavoidable taxes. Radiohead will match the total amount with their own donation.
AMCS CEO Paul Gamblin said: “We could not be more chuffed and grateful for Radiohead’s deep generosity to help us protect Australia’s ocean, coasts and marine life.
“Radiohead has been the soundtrack to many of our lives, and the band’s sustained artistry, inventiveness and relevance mean it’s speaking across generations now more than ever.
“Radiohead has always had a remarkable ability to make people think and feel differently about what matters to them, all around the world. There’s never been a more important time for humanity to seek inspiration – even provocation – from the greatest of artists, like Radiohead, as we navigate the complex times before us.
“On behalf of Australia’s marine life, we thank Radiohead for their generous support. This contribution will help deliver real change for our ocean, and the people and marine life that rely on it.
“It’s moments like these that remind us how Australia’s ocean and coastlines are treasured around the world. As Australians, it’s our responsibility and privilege to protect them.”
Radiohead has previously stated their 2011 track ‘Bloom’ was inspired by the BBC documentary ‘Blue Planet’ narrated by Sir David Attenborough. The band re-composed the track with Hans Zimmer for ‘Blue Planet II’ in 2017. Lead singer Thom Yorke has also released music in support of campaigns to protect Antarctica, sharks and manatees, and an ancient stingray has been named in his honour.
