Commissioner launches QPS Foodbank Drive 2019

Yesterday, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) launched its Christmas Foodbank Drive with the aim to collect food for families throughout Queensland experiencing hardship at Christmas time.

Commissioner Katarina Carroll officially launched the drive at the QPS Academy, which is running state-wide until December 8.

Foodbank is a non-denominational, non-profit organisation which acts as a pantry that local charities can approach for food to provide to families in need.

This is the third year the Service has partnered with Foodbank, where police stations around the state act as collection points for the donation of non-perishable and much needed food items from members of the public.

Commissioner Carroll said food insecurity is a problem requiring a coordinated response from all Queenslanders.

“This year, our state has been heavily affected by weather disasters such as droughts, fires and floods,” Commissioner Carroll said.

“Our farming families are still recovering from these events.

“65 police stations across the state have registered as a drop off point for the 2019 QPS Food Drive and with the assistance of members of the public, we hope to raise eight tonnes of food and spread Christmas cheer to our neighbours who are doing it tough.”

The QPS is proud to be involved in assisting Queenslanders throughout the state and help make this a happier holiday season for those in need.

You can assist by dropping non-perishable items to participating police stations.
