Communicating with people who are unvaccinated against Covid: new report

NCIRS

Adults who are unvaccinated against COVID-19 reported feeling pressured into vaccination without opportunities to consider alternative options and prefer a balance in the information made available from health authorities and providers, new research from NCIRS and the University of New South Wales, Sydney has found.

It was also found that participants were willing to discuss COVID-19 vaccines with family and friends as long as the conversation was respectful of different views.

The research was conducted in December 2021 and consisted of 35 semi-structured interviews with adults living in Australia who were unvaccinated against COVID-19 to explore their perspectives.

Informed by the research findings, this report makes recommendations to improve communication between health authorities, providers and unvaccinated individuals and their friends and families, including listening and maintaining two-way communication with community members; making information straightforward and easy to follow; and always being respectful when listening and responding to emotions.
