Shadow Minister for Education and Early Years Josh Willie said despite Tasmanian Government print advertisements many Tasmanian families remain in the dark regarding the proposed new school intake areas.
The review of these areas occur every five years and the consultation regarding proposed changes finishes this Friday.
“It’s important Minister Rockliff ensures the community is aware and has a real say,” Mr Willie said.
“These changes only happen every five years so it’s vital that all families who will enrol their child in 2021 are made aware.
One simple approach that could have improved the consultation is direct information being provided to all families who currently access pre-enrolment programs at government schools and Child and Family Centres.
“All parents are passionate about their children’s education and part of that is making decisions about the school they will attend.
“Labor calls on Will Hodgman and Jeremy Rockliff to detail how many submissions have been received for the 126 primary schools and 25 combined (district) schools and if necessary extend the consultation on these big changes to continue the conversation with families and students.”
