Community input wanted on Council’s Food Security Action Plan

The City of Casey is inviting the community to have their say on how Council can help improve access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally appropriate food for all Casey residents.

Through the development of the Food Security Framework, Council aims to create positive change in the local food system to achieve wider health, social, economic, and environmental benefits for the community.

Casey residents are invited to complete a short survey and share their local knowledge to help shape Council’s action on improving food security.

Everyone who completes the survey will have the opportunity to enter a draw for the chance to win one of four $50 Westfield e-vouchers.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators, Noelene Duff PSM, said Council has a role to play in supporting the health and wellbeing of residents and was keen to hear from the community about their experiences to help shape and direct Council’s work.

“We know that many residents do not live within easy walking distance of fresh food stores and in some areas, there is a lack of culturally appropriate food available,” Ms Duff said.

“We also know that cost of living pressures, including the rising cost of food, mortgage rate increases, rental increases, and petrol prices all have an impact on people’s ability to access nutritious and affordable food.

“Our Food Security Framework will consider how Council can help influence the food available in local neighbourhoods through planning and regulatory activities, use of local community facilities, programs and events, to improve food security for the whole community.

“To help us achieve this, we need to hear from Casey residents about their experiences and what is most important to them.”

The survey is open on Casey Conversations until Friday 24 February.
