Concept for building above Victoria Cross Station approved

The NSW Government today approved concept plans for an office building between 13 and 40 storeys above the new Sydney Metro Victoria Cross station to cater for thousands of jobs set to flow into the North Sydney CBD.

The Department of Planning and Environment’s assessment found the proposal will deliver a significant boost in employment generation on a site with excellent access to transport and services and is consistent with the Greater Sydney Commission’s North District Plan.

North Sydney Council recently made amendments to its Local Environmental Plan to make the most of the increased transport capacity from the new Metro station and to unlock the employment potential of the North Sydney CBD.

Local planning controls seek to ensure the proposal will deliver high employment generation, a prominent tower and large office floors suitable for a wide range of businesses.

As a condition of approval, the building envelope is required to integrate with the new Metro station and surrounding public domain area. It must also be supported by Design Guidelines to deliver a high quality urban design outcome for the site.

The Department plays an important role in the independent assessment of major projects in NSW, such as the Victoria Cross Over Station Development, and follows strict guidelines in all its assessments.
