Construction has begun on a new social housing complex in Rockhampton, which includes eight one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units.

The complex includes two units built to platinum standard and one built to gold standard of the Livable Housing Guidelines, designed for older people and those with higher mobility needs.

The project is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s record investment in social and affordable housing – the largest investment in Queensland’s history – to help deliver 14,100 homes.

Quotes attributable to Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke:

“Since 2015, we’ve delivered more than 130 homes in Central Queensland alone.

“Whether its homes, roads, transport, health or addressing cost of living pressures – it’s only the Palaszczuk Government that is delivering for our region.

“It’s great to see that a number of these homes will be built with accessibility in mind to meet the needs of older Queenslanders and peoples with a disability.”

Quotes attributable to Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:

“We’ve delivered on average more than 10 new homes every week as the big housing build continues across the state.

“A vital part of our build is making sure the homes we build are suited to the people who’ll need them.

“We know that almost half of households in social housing have at least one person with a disability, that’s why we’re focused on building homes that are accessible.”
