Construction works planned for popular Belmont shopping strip

We’re undertaking roadworks along a section of High Street next month to ensure the road outside the Belmont Village Shopping Centre is safe and can meet traffic demands.

From Monday 2 October to Monday 9 October 2023, we will replace gutters on a 100-metre section between Barwon Heads and Mount Pleasant Roads to protect the road from erosion and make sure stormwater is directed properly into drains.

This means the left lane (Grovedale-bound) will be closed, however access to Belmont Village Shopping Centre won’t be impacted.

There will be reduced speed limits and traffic management in place when work is underway between 7:00am and 5:00pm on weekdays for the safety of work crews, road users and the community. The lane closure will remain in place 24/7 until these works are completed.

Route 1, 41, 42 and 49 buses will continue to run during these works, with minor delays expected. The Belmont Village Shopping Centre bus stop will be temporarily moved 50 metres south towards Grovedale at times during these works.

From Sunday 15 October 2023, we will also undertake asphalt works along the same section of High Street from 7:00pm for five nights.

The road will be fully closed to vehicles except buses and emergency vehicles until 7:00am.

Traffic controllers will be onsite to guide High Street residents and Parkside Motel customers.

Please note: these works are weather dependent, and dates could change.

Shaun Broadbent – Acting Executive Director City Infrastructure

While the works will cause some disruption, they are necessary in the long run.

I thank the community for their patience during these important works for the Belmont community.

We ask that community members adjust to the changed traffic conditions and drive safely.
