Families in the Sutherland Shire are getting a first look at the design for the new fire station planned at Engadine.

In June, the Minns Labor Government allocated $9.9 million in the 2026/27 NSW Budget for the construction of a new Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) station.

Two adjoining lots – with access to Railway Parade and the Old Princes Highway – have already been secured for the future development of the station.

The new station will replace the existing location on Prestons Avenue, which has served the community since its opening in June 1966.

The building will feature two engine bays, improved crew accommodation and provide a safer working environment.

The Engadine fire station build is part of more than $105 million allocated for FRNSW infrastructure and fleet this financial year.

The project builds on a $5 million commitment to upgrade FRNSW stations in the Heathcote electorate, including completed works at Coledale, Sutherland, Thirroul and Helensburgh.

Emergency Services Minister Jihad Dib said:

“It’s great to see the design concept for the new fit-for-purpose fire station at Engadine which will give local crews the space, equipment and facilities they need to continue to protect families and homes across Sydney’s south.

“We’re investing in modern fire stations to maintain strong and reliable emergency response capability to protect communities across the state.”

Member for Heathcote Maryanne Stuart said:

“This is an important investment for Engadine, giving local firefighters a modern, purpose-built station to serve the community for decades to come.

“The station design will provide easy access onto the highway, allowing for a rapid response by fire crews.”

FRNSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell said:

“The new station will support our firefighters and the growing needs of the Engadine community.

“The design also incorporates our Clean Fire Station principles, reducing firefighters’ exposure to harmful substances brought back from firegrounds.”
