Police will be bank side for the Southern 80, the biggest water-ski race in the world at Echuca this weekend.
The weekend race kicks off today on the Murray River and attracts 900 competitors and 260 boats, finishing at the towns of Echuca and Moama.
Local police along with Operation Response Unit officers, Mounted Branch and Highway patrol officers will be on patrol keeping the community safe and targeting anti-social behavior.
A number of drug and alcohol testing sites will also be set up in Echuca and the surrounding area until after the event when people are heading home from the camp sites.
Acting Inspector David Rowe said this weekend sees a significant influx of visitors to the Echuca and Moama area eager to experience the Southern 80 water-ski race.
“The aim of local police is to ensure the safety of our local community and visitors alike,” he said.
“Police will provide a visible presence across the weekend both in town and forest areas along the Murray River.”
Extra police patrols will be on-hand, targeting anti-social behaviour. People engaging in this sort of activity will risk a $645 on-the-spot fine.
