Shaun Broadbent is Corangamite Shire’s new Director Works and Services.

Born and raised in Beaufort, he is looking forward to working in regional Victoria after 18 years in Geelong.

“It’s a beautiful place,” he said, adding that he has enjoyed fishing, water skiing and other recreational activities in the region.

Corangamite Shire Council’s reputation and his first permanent directorship inspired the move.

“I heard a lot of good reports about Corangamite,” the father of three said.

“There is an engaged Councillor group and the Council is in a strong financial position. I’ve heard positive reports on the leadership team as well.”

Most recently Manager Capital Projects at City of Greater Geelong for eight years, Mr Broadbent oversaw development of the $65.6 m Northern Aquatic and Community Hub which opened in Norlane last month.

“I love working with the community to make an impact in a significant and meaningful way,” he said.

“I have a Human Movement degree and I commenced in local government working on recreation-based projects and then moved into larger civil and building projects.

“I am really excited about joining the Corangamite team in the Director of Works and Services role.”

CEO David Rae welcomed Mr Broadbent to the Council team.

“Shaun joins us following an 18-year career with the City of Greater Geelong,” Mr Rae said.

“During that period, he has been responsible for, amongst other things, the planning and delivery of the Council’s infrastructure’s annual $200m+ capital works program which included major community centres, aquatic centres, streetscape projects, all pavement/civil works, sports ovals and sports reserve developments.

“Shaun is an outstanding communicator, has highly developed project and program management skills; strong financial management and budgeting skills; and advanced procurement and program management skills.”

“He has a background and qualifications in recreation and a Master of Business Administration.”

Mr Broadbent has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors qualification and is a Certified Practical Project Director with the Australian Institute of Project Managers. He commenced on Tuesday 19 March.
