Case under investigation in Victorian Hotel Quarantine

Genomic sequencing is underway into the test results of an overseas arrival into Victoria who has tested positive for COVID-19 in Hotel Quarantine.

The fully-vaccinated traveller arrived from the Netherlands via Abu Dhabi on 3 December and opted to transfer directly to Hotel Quarantine. The individual has not been in the community while infectious.

They returned an initial negative PCR test on 4 December, and subsequently became symptomatic on 6 December – returning a positive test with the finding of S gene dropout. Whole genome sequencing will commence today.

The source of acquisition remains under investigation. All other passengers on the inbound flight will be assessed to ensure they have undergone a test.

All arrivals from overseas are reminded of the requirement to quarantine for 72 hours upon arrival, to undergo a COVID-19 PCR test within 24 hours of arrival and again between 5 and 7 days following arrival.
