Coronavirus update for Victoria 9 April 2022

There are 366 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – with 9 active cases in ICU, including 3 on a ventilator, and an additional 6 cleared cases in ICU.

6,152,607 vaccine doses have been administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services, with 2,669 administered yesterday at state-run centres.

66.5 per cent of Victorians aged 18 and over have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. 94.4 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have had two doses.

9,610 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded yesterday. This includes 6,263 who tested positive on a Rapid Antigen Test and 3,347 who returned a positive result on a PCR test.

Sadly, the Department was notified of seven deaths yesterday of people aged in their 40s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 100s. Six of the deaths occurred in the past three days and one death occurred in early March.

This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 2,781.

There are 64,132 active cases in Victoria.

19,768 PCR tests were processed yesterday. The total number of PCR tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 20,167,488.

Free Rapid Antigen Tests for Victorians living with a disability

From tomorrow, free Rapid Antigen Tests will be available to eligible people with a disability. Those eligible – disability support pensioners and NDIS participants aged 16 and over – can collect up to 20 free RATs from state-run testing sites and through Disability Liaison Officers.

More than 60 vaccine pop-ups open over the school holidays

Dozens of vaccine pop-up clinics will launch over the school holidays at shopping centres, youth centres, sports complexes, markets, family fun days, train stations and major events across Victoria.

The pop-ups are in addition to Victoria’s fixed-site vaccination centres and the more than 2,100 GPs and pharmacies providing COVID-19 vaccines in Victoria.
