Correcting record on missing controlled items

A news article published by the Daily Telegraph, Sydney on 13 January 2020 about ‘missing’ Australian Border Force (ABF) weapons and vests significantly misrepresents information provided to the news outlet.

Information provided to News.com.au prior to publication of the story advised that the alleged missing Glock pistol, hard-armour body plates, canisters of capsicum spray and the batons had been accounted for and are now accurately recorded in the relevant departmental system.

It was also highlighted to the news outlet that additional control measures have since been introduced to improve management of controlled items and record monthly stocktakes in the departmental system.
