Council approves manufacturing factory

Last night’s council meeting (18 August 2020) made a number of key decisions.

Next stage of development for former Electrolux plant

The meeting approved a DA to open a $5 million aluminium extrusion and powder coating plant on the site of the former Electrolux factory.

A-Tech Extrusion Systems want to install equipment to produce 9,000 tonnes of finished product per year.

The plans is to make components for :

  • the construction industry including windows, doors, skylights, canopies, louvers etc.
  • transportation – automotive structural and chassis components, crash management systems electrical and energy – solar energy mounting systems, LED lighting components
  • medical and consumer durables – recreation products, home and garden tools, home appliances, medical diagnostic equipment.

The applicant proposes to operate the aluminium processing plant and packaging and dispatch facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week over three shifts, with around sixty staff.

Major milestone for gallery extension

Plans to build an extension for the Orange Regional Gallery reached major milestones last night with the council meeting approving the DA for the $4.8 million project and awarding the construction tender.

The planned extension will include:

  • extra gallery space of 269 square metres
  • artwork conservation and storage space
  • a 75 seat theatrette
  • along with loading dock, plant room and lobby

Funding for the project is:

  • $3.6 million from the NSW Government under the NSW Cultural Fund
  • $1 million from Council in its current budget
  • Community fund-raising which has so far raised $220,000
