Council funds $2.5 Million in Community Grants 2019-20

Monash Council will again fund more than $2.5 million in community grants to groups and organisations within Monash in 2019/20.

Monash has one of the largest community grants programs in Victoria and this year 237 eligible applications were considered.

Council will provide cash and in-kind funding (including hall hire or printing) to 206 organisations and services who met the funding criteria. Of these 92 are new applicants with 114 recurrent groups.

These include 11 Specialist Services organisations, six neighbourhood houses and 97 Positive Ageing groups. The grants are:

  • $825,663 to Positive Ageing
  • $745,676 to Specialist Services
  • $480,740 to Neighbourhood Houses
  • $341,847 to Community Strengthening Activities
  • $96,164 to Arts and Cultural Projects
  • $25,650 to Major Festivals
  • $48,023 to Community Events.

Monash Mayor Shane McCluskey said the number of requests for community grants indicated the high value of the program to the Monash community.

“The Monash Community Grants Program encourages community connectivity and participation, as well as focusing Council’s support on the groups most in need,” Cr McCluskey said.

“We’re proud to be supporting so many wonderful groups making such a difference in our community.

“We try our best to support as many groups as we can but unfortunately, we can’t support every organisation. It’s a difficult task choosing the programs and organisations to support and we spend a lot of time making the decision and believe our final choices support those groups that are meeting the real needs of our community.”
