Council makes splash with free pool entry

Enjoy some fun in the sun this festive season as Townsville City Council throws open the doors at the city’s public pools for free until 24 December 2023.

Residents and visitors will be able to head to the Northern Beaches Leisure Centre, Tobruk Memorial Baths, Long Tan Memorial Pool and Kokoda Memorial Pool at no cost in the lead up to Christmas to stave off the heat.

Mayor Jenny Hill said she was excited to announce the free entry initiative.

“I know that almost everyone in Townsville wants to be in a pool right now. The mercury is soaring and there’s no better time for Council to offer free entry to our public pools,” Cr Hill said.

“As an early Christmas present to the community we’re offering residents the chance to come together and enjoy a fun-filled day out at the pool.

“Our free entry will cover individual and family entry for adults, children, concessions and spectators, but won’t cover swimming lessons, group bookings like birthday parties, aqua aerobics or multi-pass entries.

“Council takes a lot of pride in working with its lessees to deliver our public pools to Townsville and I know this free pool period will be well received by the community.

“Get your towels ready and slip, slop, slap, seek and slide before heading to the pool this month. Parents and caregivers, make sure you are continuously and actively supervising your children when they are in, on or around the water, and keep your children under five years of age within arm’s reach.”

Free entry to Townsville’s public pools runs until 24 December 2023.
