Greater Geelong councillors have provided the following comments in response to the update issued by the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) on 12 March 2020, regarding the waste stockpile at Broderick Road, Lara.

The team at the Broderick Road site has gone to great efforts to sort through the dumped material and mulch the mountains of left-over timber.
It’s terrific that the mulch is getting a second life as it’s used in and around our region, benefiting the local environment and community.
Deputy Mayor Kylie Grzybek – Windermere ward
I’m sure northern suburbs residents will be relieved to see more than 22,000 cubic metres of mulch and waste timber have been removed from the site.
I shared in the frustrations of the community about how the stockpile came about, but I’m really pleased with the EPA’s efforts to clean up the site and the City’s work managing fire risk.

I’m pleased the situation is being turned into a positive, by spreading mulch from the timber stockpiles across different sites in the region.
It’s been a frustrating process, but I can assure the community that the right action is being taken to clean up the site.
