Council is expanding its Compost Revolution program, with residents now able to choose from six different composting products and claim a discount of up to 50 per cent with free delivery until 28 February 2022.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Peter Hemphill said more options for compost would complement Council’s aim to divert as much waste as possible from landfill through innovative ways that are cost effective and accessible

“With the changes in food and garden waste collection frequencies, we need to find ways to support those in our community who are still as committed as us to dispose of their waste in the most sustainable way possible,” said Cr Hemphill.

“By composting at home, households can enjoy the benefits of producing their own nutrient-rich material and natural fertiliser.”

The new subsidised products include:

  • Green Cone Solar Composter: a food waste composter that is essentially maintenance free once installed. Add food waste to the top and let the green cone do the work as the material decomposes into the surrounding soil. All it requires is a sunny spot and a small space to be dug into the ground.
  • Hungry Bin Worm Farm: a large worm farm that can process up to 2kgs of food waste per day. Can be used on a balcony or in a small courtyard.
  • Eco Tumbler 245: a 245 litre barrel that will compost both food and garden waste. Designed with a geared handle for easy turning and separate compartments to rotate organic material. Ideal for a small garden.

One discount and free delivery is available per household. Residents that have already received a discount and free delivery this financial year are ineligible.
