Council takes out two Macleay Valley Business Awards

Council staff and Councillors have started the week greeted by the news that Kempsey Shire Council took out two awards in the Macleay Valley Business Awards over the weekend.

Council was awarded the Excellence in Professional Services Award (for more than 21 employees) and the Employer of Choice Award.

General Manager, Craig Milburn, was joined on stage by members of the Organisational Development team who have led a number of the changes Council has undertaken over the last 18 months.

“It was a pleasure to be able to directly recognise some of our hardworking staff in accepting these fantastic Awards,” Mr Milburn said.

“We”ve undertaken a huge program of restructure, technology change and process improvement and just entering the Awards is a great indication of staff having the confidence to declare that we have made some positive gains through those changes.”

Kempsey Shire Council employs around 290 staff, making it a key business supporting the local economy.

Over the last 12 months staff from across the organisation have worked together to develop a vision – to lead and work with our community to build an inspired, connected Macleay Valley. This vision has positively impacted staff morale, improved internal communication and strengthened relationships with the community.

“The loyalty and willingness of our staff to build a career at Kempsey Council contributes to us being an employer of choice,” Mr Milburn said.

“We invest in supporting the professional development and motivation of our workforce and in the last year alone 87.5% of our staff attended a combined 6,407 hours of training, sponsored tertiary studies and conferences.

“These Awards are fantastic recognition of our achievements and the changes we’ve put in place but there is still lots to do to make sure we”ve got the best people, delivering the best value for money services that our community desires.”
