Flynn Ward Councillor and local farmer, Liesbeth Long will be elected Mayor of Central Goldfields Shire at a Statutory Meeting on Tuesday 21 November at 6pm.

First elected in 2020, Cr Liesbeth Long is in her third year on Council and will be sworn in as Mayor for the next 12 months – the final year of the current Council term.

Mayor-elect Councillor Liesbeth Long said it would be an honour and a privilege to be sworn in as Central Goldfields Shire Mayor.

“I am humbled by the opportunity and excited by the challenge of representing the Central Goldfields community over the next 12 months. My motivation to be Mayor comes from a deep sense of wanting to serve and have a positive impact on other people and the world around me.

“As a Council we have achieved so much over the past three years, and, as we commence our fourth and final year, we remain focused and committed to the delivery of our Council Plan. I dearly want to see the shire prosper and thrive, the population to be engaged and to be proud of where they live.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time for us in the Central Goldfields – last week we celebrated the official opening of the redeveloped Maryborough Railway Station and next week we look forward to welcoming around 20,000 visitors to our Shire for Energy Breakthrough.

“My commitment to the community is that I will work tirelessly alongside you and dedicate myself wholly to the task at hand, to ultimately achieve the best outcomes for the Central Goldfields Shire.

“I would like to thank my Councillor colleagues for their support and encouragement, entrusting me with this responsibility. I am eager to work with each of them, CEO Lucy Roffey and Council staff to continue the great work of Council.

“I’d also like to thank and congratulate our outgoing Mayor Cr Grace La Vella for her leadership, dedication and contribution to Council over the past 12 months.”

Central Goldfields Shire outgoing Mayor Cr Grace La Vella said she thoroughly enjoyed her year as Mayor.

“It was a fabulous year, I achieved everything that I set out to. I thank the community and my fellow Councillors for their support during my term.

“I look forward to sitting back around the table as a Councillor and supporting Liesbeth in her term as Mayor over the coming year.”
