The City of Salisbury’s streetscape is set to be transformed with the creation of a series of large scale murals and public artworks throughout Salisbury.
The Create a Place – Public Art Program will pair local artists with landlords to create approximately six or seven artworks.
Council has approved funding of $40,000 for the program and is now seeking artists and businesses with suitable high profile frontages to be involved.
City of Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge, OAM said she encouraged both emerging and established artists to participate.
“Public art provides an opportunity for a city to show off its unique identity and culture,” she said.
“Street art can drive tourism and will strengthen our local economy as well as reduce graffiti and the associated removal costs.
“This exciting street art program will complement the new Salisbury Community Hub and other transformation being driven by Council,” she said.
The Create a Place – Public Art Program is part of Council’s desire to improve city pride by creating an exciting place to live.
Interested artists and businesses are encouraged to contact Tabatha Pettigrew, Community Planner: Arts and Culture at the City of Salisbury, prior to submitting their online Expressions of Interest.
