Council to celebrate Townsville’s standout seniors

People in Townsville are encouraged to nominate standout seniors in their lives for this year’s Townsville City Council Senior Awards.

Nominations close at 5pm on Sunday 30 July 2023.

This annual event recognises the city’s unsung heroes by publicly thanking them for what they do for the city.

Council’s vision is for Townsville to be a globally connected community driven by lifestyle and nature. Senior residents are certainly embracing this vision and participating in the arts, sports, events and recreational activities through volunteering their time, sharing their knowledge, coaching and guiding others. Without seeking public recognition or accolades, they are contributing to the wellbeing of our community.

Mayor Jenny Hill said Council’s annual Senior Awards were one way we could say thank you to the city’s senior residents.

“What they do strengthens the community in many ways: they build connections and promote social cohesion; they serve as catalyst for change, inspiring others with their passion, dedication and positive influence; and they create positive experiences for individuals and groups through events,” Cr Hill said.

“Their work often goes unnoticed, so the Senior Awards are about giving them the recognition and thanks they deserve.”

The are two categories – Female Senior of the Year and Male Senior of the Year – with all nominees and a guest invited to attend the first day of the Seniors Luncheon event on Thursday 24 August 2023.

All nominees will be acknowledged during the awards ceremony and presented with a certificate and plant.

The Female Senior of the Year and the Male Senior of the Year will be presented with a framed certificate and gift from the Mayor at the luncheon.

Townsville residents who know a senior contributing in our community can now say thank you by nominating them on the Senior Awards page.
