Council urges residents to put your bins out early

Swan Hill Rural City Council is urging residents to put their bins out the night before their scheduled daytime kerbside collection.

New contractors for Council waste, recycling, green waste collection and recycling processing services, commenced earlier this month.

Director Infrastructure Svetla Petkova said kerbside collection will remain the same with weekly waste collection and fortnightly recycling and green waste collection.

“Whilst days of kerbside collection remain the same, the timing of bin collections may change.

“Council strongly encourages all residents to put their bins out the night before their schedule kerbside collection – to avoid missing out on bin collections,” she said.

Ms Petkova said new contractors are getting familiar with the area and looking at potential ways to optimise kerbsibe collections.

“We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during the initial months of familiarisation and for playing your part in effective and efficient waste and recycling collection,” she said.

Ms Petkova said with changes to servicing it was a good time to encourage residents to think about what goes into their bins.

“Our residents are traditionally particularly good at recycling however contamination is still a problem.

“A number of people are still not aware that if they put the wrong things into their recycling bin, items that would normally be recycled, end up in landfill.

“Our new contractors will be on the lookout for contaminated bins,” she added.
