Council welcomes disaster funding

Kempsey Road is set to benefit from today’s joint government announcement of natural disaster funding for areas affected by the October storms.

Council’s Interim Administrator, Viv May, welcomed the announcement by the Federal Minister for Emergency Management, David Littleproud, and the NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, of funding for several local government areas, including the Armidale region.

“This will provide tremendous assistance for Council to address the latest incident of storm damage on Kempsey Road,” Mr May said.

“This is particularly good news for the residents of Lower Creek.

“There is a lot of work to be done on Kempsey Road and this support from the State and Federal Governments will progress that recovery work.”

Mr May said the ongoing work to repair several sections of Kempsey Road had seriously depleted Council’s own reserves for road works.

“We are extremely appreciative of the efforts of our Local State Member, Adam Marshall, and Federal Member Barnaby Joyce to advocate for the Natural Disaster Declaration to be fast-tracked,” he said.
