A Latrobe City pet owner has been ordered to pay more than $17,000 following a successful prosecution by Latrobe City Council in Latrobe Magistrates Court relating to a serious dog attack.
Following an investigation by Council’s Local Laws Officers, a range of charges were brought against the owner of the two offending dogs under the Domestic Animals Act 1994, resulting in a number of fees and fines, and a Destruction Order for both dogs.
Latrobe City Council CEO Steven Piasente reminded dog owners of their obligations under the Domestic Animals Act, including ensuring dogs were adequately contained and controlled to prevent harm to people and other animals.
“Serious dog attacks can have significant impacts on victims, families and the broader community. Council encourages all pet owners to understand and meet their responsibilities to help maintain a safe community,” Mr Piasente said.
