COVID-19 update: Playgrounds re-open

Playgrounds across the municipality will re-open this week following advice from the Victorian Government.

Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) closed its playgrounds, skate parks and the pump track in March to limit the spread of COVID-19 and discourage gatherings within the community.

From 11.59pm on Monday 25 May 2020 public playgrounds, skateparks and outdoor communal gym equipment will be open with a maximum of 10 people allowed to use equipment at any one time. This will increase to 20 persons at 11.59pm on 31 May 2020. Physical distancing and gathering rules apply at all times.

In the coming days Council staff remove closure signs and install new signage at more than 30 facilities.

The new signage will reinforce social distancing, limits to the size of gatherings and hygiene requirements for those that wish to use playground and skate park facilities.

“We will work with to ensure we have appropriate cleaning regimes in place but we ask the community to continue practising good hand hygiene before and after use, keep the minimum distance and no more than 10 people using any facility at one time,” Director Community and Place Kevin O’Brien said.

“To ensure these facilities remain accessible to the community, users must continue to do the right thing,” he said.

HRCC will continue to monitor the advice of State and Federal governments regarding further easing of restrictions.
