A man has been charged following an investigation into a suspicious car fire in Sydney’s south west.
About 3.50am on Sunday 9 August 2026, police were called to Sapphire Place, Eagle Vale, following reports of a car fire.
Officers attached to Campbelltown City Police Area Command attended and found a vehicle well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews extinguished the blaze with the vehicle sustaining some damage to its exterior.
Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
Following inquiries, on Wednesday 28 October 2026, detectives executed a search warrant at an address on Kemira Place, Cartwright, and seized mobile phones, a ledger and a black bag containing rubber gloves, a black balaclava, black clothing, paper towel, a bottle of bleach and a glass jar.
Police also seized a Holden sedan allegedly seen leaving the Sapphire Place address shortly after the fire began.
Following further inquiries, detectives attended a correctional facility at Silverwater and arrested a 29-year-old man where he was charged with damage property by fire/explosive greater than $15000.
Police will allege in court the man threw a Molotov cocktail at the vehicle to cause the fire.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today (Monday 2 November 2026).
