The COVID gods have aligned just in time for the Armidale Region’s aquatic centres to reopen next week.
Community members will be able to enjoy a cool dip or swim a few laps from Monday 4 October in Guyra and Tuesday 5 October in Armidale, but some restrictions will remain to keep patrons safe.
Council’s Coordinator of Public and Town Spaces Richard Morsley said Council has revised its COVIDSafe plans for our aquatic centres to maximise safety and hygiene.
“Staff at Armidale and Guyra aquatic centres will be taking extra measures to ensure compliance with our COVIDSafe plans and people are adhering to restrictions outlined in the Public Health Order to keep everyone safe.”
“The one person per four square metre and social distancing rules will apply and we encourage pool goers to wear masks when approaching the kiosks.”
“We recommend community members to come to the pool prepared, by arriving in swimwear and leaving once they’ve finished swimming to avoid use of change rooms where possible,” said Mr Morsley.
Our aquatic centres are important outdoor recreational facilities that provide entertainment and health and wellbeing benefits for residents.
“Lap swimmers may relish in the water temperatures being a little warmer this season following the heat pump upgrades earlier this year,” said Mr Morsley.
“Reopening our doors is a welcome relief for residents looking to escape the summer heat, pursuing exercise alternatives or seeking family friendly activities, particularly after another tough year.”
The Guyra Swimming Pool will be open from 10.30am on Monday, and Monckton Aquatic Centre will open at 6am on Tuesday.
