COVID-19 Update:

Lockout for Katherine & Greater Darwin. New public exposure sites listed & testing required.

7 November 2021

The Katherine region will transition from a lockdown to a lockout at 3pm today, while the Greater Darwin region lockout will be extended for 24 hours. Both Greater Darwin and Katherine are expected to exit lockout at 11.59pm tomorrow.

No new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the NT and the cluster remains at three cases. Investigations have found the woman from Cairns, who tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, to be the source of the COVID-19 infection. The woman was infectious upon her arrival into the NT on 29 October 2021, after having undertaken recent interstate travel including to Melbourne in Victoria.

The lockouts will allow for additional testing to be undertaken following new public exposure sites being identified. A significant contact tracing effort remains underway to make sure those people who have visited public exposure sites are isolating and getting tested. It is important all people in the NT continue to regularly check the COVID-19 website to review the list of NT public exposure sites here.

NT Health contact tracers have identified 123 close contacts, of which 119 have been contacted and are currently isolating. The vast majority of close contacts have been tested with more than 100 negative tests returned so far. Further results are expected today.

Significant testing has been undertaken with 2587 COVID-19 tests completed across Darwin and Katherine yesterday, all returning negative results. It is critical that anyone who has symptoms, gets tested for COVID-19 so we can make sure any spread of COVID-19 in the NT has been contained.

There has been a surge in demand for the COVID-19 vaccine with 1600 people getting the jab across the NT yesterday, while 2292 bookings were made between 10pm on 5 November 2021 and 10pm on 6 November 2021.

NT COVID-19 Vaccination Centre opening hours have been extended across the NT, with appointments still available for today. Danila Dilba Health Service Vaccination Clinics in Darwin City and Palmerston are also open today. Walk-ins are welcome.

You can get your COVID-19 vaccine at NT Vaccination Centres, GP Clinics, Respiratory Clinics and Aboriginal Health Clinics. You can book online here or call the COVID-19 Hotline on 1800 490 484. The Hotline is open until 9.30pm tonight and will re-open at 8am on Monday.

Under a lockout, fully vaccinated residents are able to live normally within the lockout area. Everyone must wear a mask outside their place of residence. Travel is permitted between the Katherine and Greater Darwin lockout zones – if you are double vaccinated – but not to other parts of the NT.

Unvaccinated residents, including those people who have received only their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, must stay at home during a lockout period and are only permitted to leave for the following five reasons:

1. Medical treatment, including COVID testing or vaccination

2. For essential goods and services, like groceries and medications

3. Essential work

4. For one hour of outdoor exercise a day within 5 km from your home with one other person or people from your house

5. To provide care and support to a family member or person who cannot support themselves.

It is important that you continue to use The Territory Check-In App to check in everywhere you go, every time, no matter how long you spend at that location. Checking in with The Territory Check-In App is fast and secure and allows our health teams to quickly undertake contact tracing.
