Covid Update: Positive wastewater in Katherine, Darwin to exit mask mandate

NT Government

The mask mandate for Greater Darwin will finish at 5pm today, while the mask mandate in Katherine will be extended for 24 hours until 5pm on Saturday, 13 November, 2021, due to positive wastewater results.

Wastewater results for the Katherine Golf Club and the Bicentennial Road catchments in Katherine returned a positive result today – for the period November 10-11.

There are no known cases of COVID-19 or close contacts associated with the Bicentennial Road catchment.

It is important anyone showing even the mildest symptoms of COVID-19, especially those people who live in or have visited Katherine, to get tested immediately. Symptoms include a cough, headache, fever, shortness of breath, diarrhoea, muscle aches, fatigue, change in taste or smell and a sore throat.

Further wastewater tests are being contacted across both catchments and the community will be informed when results are returned.

There was also a positive wastewater test for COVID-19 result for the Leanyer/Sanderson sewage treatment plant in Darwin’s northern suburbs today, for the November 10 – 11 period.

This outcome may be linked to confirmed cases of COVID-19 currently in quarantine and is no cause for alarm for Darwin residents.

All people in Katherine are reminded that the current mask mandate will remain in place until 5pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Rules include:

· Face masks must be worn outside of the home when you are unable to maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres – this includes at places like the supermarket, shops, the hairdresser and on public transport. Workers who come into close contact with patrons, or who work in crowded environments will need to wear a mask. You do not have to wear a mask while exercising or playing sport.

· Patrons at restaurants, cafes and pubs must wear a mask unless eating or drinking. Dance floors can open but masks must be worn.

· Travel will be permitted across the Territory but restrictions continue to apply and follow you, if you travel outside the lockout area.

It is important that Territorians continue to use The Territory Check-In App to check in everywhere they go, every time, no matter how long they spend at a public location. Checking in with The Territory Check-In App is fast and secure and allows our health teams to quickly undertake contact tracing.

To reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading in our communities, it is important for everyone to follow all health directions and vaccinations for all those eligible.
