Crash in Darwin City

Northern Territory Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to a crash in Darwin city this morning.

Territory Duty Superintendent Jamie O’Brien said a stolen blue Isuzu ran a red light and crashed into Toyota C-HR at the intersection of Daly and McMinn Streets just before 8:30am. The stolen vehicle did not stop at the scene.

The Isuzu was located a short distance away within minutes of the crash. A quick-thinking civilian, who had witnessed the crash, detained the driver of the stolen vehicle until Police arrived and arrested the driver. A second occupant of the vehicle had fled on foot and remains outstanding.

Emergency services attended and transported the driver of the second vehicle to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The same stolen vehicle had been seen in Palmerston about an hour earlier and police had engaged in a short pursuit on Chung Wah Terrace before terminating due to safety concerns. Police in both Darwin and Palmerston were monitoring the road network for the vehicle.”

Detectives from Strike Force Trident are continuing to investigate the incident.
