New South Wales Police continue to execute a major disruption operation targeting criminal networks in Sydney’s south-west, following a spate of public acts of violence in recent weeks.
Last Monday (19 October 2020), emergency services were called to Simmat Avenue, Condell Park, after reports of a shooting.
A man was found with multiple gunshot wounds nearby. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene.
Strike Force Courier was established by the State Crime Command’s Criminal Group Squad to investigate the murder of Mejid Hamzy.
As part of ongoing investigations, strike force investigators executed crime scene search warrants at the Simmat Avenue property, as well as a unit also at Condell Park and a home in Fairfield.
Inquiries continue.
In conjunction with concurrent ongoing investigations, Strike Force Raptor assisted by Operation Talon and North-West Metropolitan Operations Support Group (OSG) commenced an operation to suppress further acts of violence following recent murders and public place shootings.
Public Safety Orders (PSO) were served to 22 individuals police allege are linked with the ongoing conflict in Sydney’s south-west. PSOs were served at the following locations –
- Fairmount Street, Merrylands
- Irrigation Road, Merrylands
- Royal Place, Greystanes
- Chelsea Street, Merrylands
- Gerald Street, Greystanes
- Ropes Creek Road, Mt Druitt
- Pan Crescent, Greystanes
- Colyton Road, Minchinbury
- The Promenade, San Souci
- East Street, Lidcombe
- Albert Road, Auburn
- McPherson Street, Bronte
- Auburn Road, Auburn
- Princes Highway, Rockdale
- Percy Street, Auburn
- Jervis Street, Ermington
- Canterbury Road, Punchbowl
In conjunction with the serving of PSOs, Strike Force Raptor and South West Metropolitan Region have continued a targeted execution of Firearm Prohibition Orders across suburbs in Sydney’s south-west.
Commander of the Criminal Groups Squad, Detective Superintendent Robert Critchlow said police would use all avenues available to them to supress public acts of violence.
“We have served Public Safety Orders and will continue to execute Firearm Prohibition Orders, the next step will likely see Serious Crime Prohibition Orders enforced which place huge restrictions on the way of life of those who have been served them,” Detective Superintendent Critchlow said.
“Anyone involved in these shootings or other violent activity, should expect to be arrested. Shooting into homes, businesses or cars is reckless and dangerous and will not be tolerated by police.
“We will not stop in our pursuit of these reckless and careless individuals who continue to put the community at risk, and if you are involved, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, it is best to assume we are watching your every move,” Detective Superintendent Critchlow said.
