Critical incident declared after fatal crash near Taree, NSW

A critical incident has been declared following a fatal crash near Taree this afternoon.

Just before 1.15pm (Monday 22 June 2020), a Highway Patrol Officer observed a Ford Falcon travelling on Bulga Road, Wingham.

The officer performed a U-turn in an attempt to pull the vehicle over.

The Falcon was located further down Bulga Road where it had collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

The female driver of the Falcon suffered fatal injuries.

The male driver of the other vehicle – a Hiace van – suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

A crime scene has been established at the crash site and will be examined by officers from Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit.

A Critical Incident Investigation Team from Mid North Coast will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the crash.

That investigation will be subject to independent review and all information will be provided to the Coroner.
