Critical incident investigation underway following fatal stabbing – St Marys

A critical incident investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in Sydney’s west.

About 8.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 15 August 2023), emergency services were called to a home in Edmondson Avenue, St Marys, over concerns for a man’s welfare.

Officers from Nepean Police Area Command were called to the home about 6.45am today (Wednesday 16 August 2023), after reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, police found a woman suffering stab wounds to her chest. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene. The woman has not been formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 30s.

Following inquiries, a 35-year-old man was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station about 7.30am today, where he is assisting detectives with their inquiries.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Nepean Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

A critical incident team from Ryde Police Area Command will investigate all the other circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
